What does a 21st century economy look like?
Automation. Technology. Skilled trades. Healthcare. Environmental tourism.
The United States is facing a skilled labor and healthcare worker shortage crisis, especially as routine jobs are being automated away. What we once thought of as stable careers are at risk - even lawyers and accountants will be impacted by artificial intelligence.
We've seen how heroic our critical labor force, like our nurses, truckers, and grocery/warehouse workers, have been during the Coronavirus pandemic - and by the numbers, we'll need even more in the coming years.
Other regions in Michigan and throughout the country have capitalized on their prime waterfront to attract visitors and technology-based businesses, to the tune of billions of dollars of investment - look no further than Detroit itself.
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW.
Downriver has been through a lot lately - US Steel just laid off 1,500 employees. Our local storefronts are closing because it's hard to compete with Amazon. The Coronavirus pandemic has put extreme burden on our grocery and warehouse workers, nurses, and truck drivers, among many others. Our roads and bridges need serious attention and resources.
But when things change, Downriver adapts. And when life gets tough, we get to work - like we always do, with Downriver Grit.
It's time for Downriver to have the reputation it deserves - we're some of the most hard-working, down-to-earth, and skilled people in Michigan. Let's use our region's talent to hit the ground running in a 21st century economy
I've been working hard to make sure our waterfront Superfund site will be cleaned up and redeveloped to benefit our residents and small businesses - not special interests
I ran for mayor of Trenton in 2019 to promote a new path forward for Downriver's residents and small businesses
